Nearly a year after the climactic events of Dragon Slippers, the following letter was sent to the King of Feravel:
To His Most Royal Majesty, Caxel the First, King of the Realm of Feravel, Greetings, Sire,
Some ten years ago our humble southern province was graced with an endowment of funds with which to build a glorious chapel to the Triune Gods. This chapel was completed some two years ago, when we at last placed the great stained glass window at the far end of the chapel, to shine jewel-toned light upon the triple altar. This window was a work of art, commissioned from the finest glassworks in Feravel, and taking some two years for them to complete.
But alas, a terrible thing has happened. In an act of thievery shocking to contemplate, some rogues have stolen this very window! It happened not a fortnight since, and though the whole province has been roused, not a hint of the thieves can be found. The entire window, frame, sill and all, was taken from the wall and removed to who knows where. Not a shard of glass, nor a footprint, has been spied to give us some clue as to who has perpetrated this heinous crime. There are long scratches to each side of the aperture, but this tells us nothing.
We must beg you, Sire, for more generosity. If the window cannot be recovered, could your Majesty find it in your heart to grant us more gold, that we may replace the glass? For now, with the window missing, the chapel cannot be used, and our people toil without the blessings of the chapel service.
We Remain,
Your most humble and loyal servants, by the grace of the Triune Gods,
The Brothers of South Dell, namely
Pater Vizell
